My Service Dog, Inc. was formed to fulfill a need for Service
Dogs in and around the Houston, TX area.
In 2004 I decided to succumb to my calling and searched for
a company or foundation that trained Service, and/or Hearing
Dogs in the Houston area. I wanted to apply as a trainer but
to my surprise, I could not find an organization within 190
miles from my home. I soon realized that I would have to actually
take on the formation of a nonprofit organization myself.
Oh Joy!
I was forced to sell my home and land in the country. I sold
it to my son's best friend and his wife. They had a female
Labrador Retriever named Bell. My son had a male Labrador
named Buddie. Bell and Buddie got together and produced puppies.
They were born on my old homeland so that made them special
from the start.
I traveled from where I had moved to in Conroe (135 miles
round trip) twice to test one of the puppies. She was the
runt of the litter and she - I later found out - had died
after birth and was resurrected. She looked like a runt of
a dog, but she had knowledge and love in her eyes.
February 2004 while loading several moving trucks full of
my furniture and belongings from Hempstead to Conroe, my son
and his friend dumped Molly into my arms. She was filthy,
stinky, hungry, thirsty, and tired, but so was I. I held her
at arms length and deemed her the first Service Dog in training
right then and there; I named her Molly.
Molly was a fast study and by 4-months old we were working
in public and training to give presentations to the public.
The first place Molly was taken was the Montgomery County
Library in Conroe, TX. To this day I train all of my Service
Dogs at that Library. The people that work there have watched
Molly, Ranger, Wryley, and Nate grow and learn. The entire
staff is always glad to see them come in. They are very nice
people and have helped in the training along the way. We really
appreciate them!
