"Making A Difference 4-Paws At A Time"
Chris and I have been talking for a while about a Service Dog for him. He has had experience with training dogs and his last two dogs were Labs.
In the mean while Jenny had Clancy, a very amazing Seizure Alert dog, for the past year. Due to so many changes in her medicines, she is not having the same types of seizures, and Clancy was not really working like he had been for the past year.

Jenny decided that it was not fair to keep Clancy if she didn't need him so she asked us to find someone for him.

Clancy was rescued by a special lady named Lisa with Houston Lab Rescue, and had donated him to Jenny and now to us. She agrees that he is a "working dog" and needs to work till he retires.
Chris volunteered to foster Clancy and try him out for himself. He is teaching him tasks needed for his disability. They will learn together.

First time Clancy & Chris meet

Hi, I’m Chris... I graduated from Hillcrest High
in 1988. I went into the Air Force in 1989 and served in the first Gulf War as a crew chief on MH-53J Pavelow IIIE helicopters and now a disabled veteran. I finished my enlistment then
hung around Florida for about 9 years..I moved to Texas in 1999 in pursuit of a job with helicopters which was my job in the military. I continued on with the helicopters until August of 2005.

I was married in 2001 and have a wonderful
six year old son.. I was divorced in 2003.

In August of 2005 a car accident paralyzed me .. Slowly I have gotten my life back bit by bit.
I STILL LOVE TO DUCK HUNT!! I also love to hit the mud on my Kawasaki Mule!!

Adam had to get in on all the fun

I have the best friends from Florida in the world!! Thanks to Keith, I drive now. I have an apartment which I live alone but manage to stay busy..lol...Last summer I did volunteer work as
a QA (quality assurance) inspector for an aircraft maintenance facility at one of the airports.. I set procedures in place and organize the maintenance program to ensure smooth operation.

People ask me if I do therapy or have rehab.. like to move my legs. I want everyone to understand that its my spine that was broken...not my legs. There is a misconception about rehabs...They only teach you how to walk again if you have motion.
If there is none then their job is to teach you to be independent and be able to take care of yourself. Not to walk. If there was motion in my legs then yes at that time I would have therapy to try to walk again. Right now I’m moving on with my life with what I have and not what I wish I have. I’m not going to spend the rest of my life hoping for something when I have a great life to live right now. Its in Gods hands to heal me.

Chris is amazed at three Service Dogs laying quietly while we ate at McDonalds

Last year I realized a service dog would really benefit me in day to day life. I did a Google search for the Houston area and found “My service dog” dot com. I called and spoke with Allie and we spoke numerous times.

In the mean while Clancy came available and needed a Recipient or a Foster Parent until he has his human. I volunteered to foster Clancy and to work with him to learn new 'task' to fit my needs.

With my duck hunting and retriever training background, he could serve well for me pending his retrieval abilities. We will start off slow with keys and knickknacks that I can’t reach. We will later graduate to pull handles to open doors and retrieving medical items. Clancy will have a loving foster and possibly permanent home here as we work together to broaden his abilities and occupy my time. I will keep a journal or Blog so check back for the story as we go.
