James Sweatt discovered that he had MS in 1995
when he was a linebacker for the Arizona Cardinals. He was
confined to a wheelchair in 2001, and to date he still has
use of his arms and hands, but no use of his legs. He had
brain surgery in March of 2004 to stop the shakes in his hands.
He met Bill Klotz and his Service Dog in training,
at that time, "Ranger"
at a meeting and decided that he really needed a Service Dog
for himself.
He, like Bill, dropped his keys outside of his
apartment one hot Houston day and sat there for over an hour
before someone heard his cries for help. With a Service Dog
he will never have that problem again. James also said that
he is always dropping the phone, remote, and other objects
that he really needs. He wants a companion that stays with
him 24 hours a day so that he won't feel so helpless again.
There is no doubt that a Service Dog will do that for him.
He loves to spend time with Molly
and she loves to see him too. We have gotten together on numerous
occasions to work with James and he said that it makes him
sad to have to leave her, and can't wait until he has his
own Service Dog. We are going to make that happen for James
and with your help we can make it happen much faster.
