Dexter, a Standard Poodle, was donated by Jenny Waltmon 03/16/08
at almost eight weeks old. When I tested him I rolled a ball
and he went after it and brought it back! The only other puppy
at that age that's done that was Molly. So, he was the one.
Dexter's human is Dr. Ali Snow and this is her story:
My name is Alicia Snow and I am the proud owner of Dexter,
a beautiful black and white standard party poodle. I am a
clinical psychologist that trained at Texas A&M University
and Baylor College of Medicine. A large number of my clients
are children. I work with kids who have Pervasive Developmental
Disorders, Anxiety, Depression and Attention Deficit Disorders.
Dexter has been a tremendous asset to my practice. You can
imagine the importance of making therapy fun for children
in order to keep them coming back for more. Dexter has helped
me accomplish this goal. I use him in 2 ways. The first task
he has is helping children relax. He is asked to lie still
while they pet him and do relaxation breathing exercises.
The second way I use him is as a reward for accomplishing
goals of the therapy. If they do homework or accomplish a
goal, I give them "Dexter Time". This has been more
rewarding than any other treat I have used over the years.
Kids look forward to coming and seeing him here.
All this said, the best part of having him in my practice
is the company and love he gives me personally. My job is
stressful and at times even heartbreaking. He fills my "love
bucket" while the rest of my work drains it. I cannot
imagine going to work without him.
