Kelly Leach was born August 13, 1986 with five broken ribs,
and was diagnosed with Osteogenesis Inperfecta. Her twin sister
Melissa was born healthy.
The doctors soon discovered that she had a severe kyphosis
(curvature) in her neck. She has had four surgeries on her
neck since, two as a baby, one at four years old, and again
at twelve years old. The last surgery left her permanently
wheelchair-dependent.
Her disability has not stopped Kelly and her
family from living an interesting life. When she was only
two years old, her family moved to a camp called Rumbai on
the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. When she was six, they
moved to Aberdeen, Scotland. At twelve years old, they moved
to Missouri City, TX, where they live today. Kelly goes to
collage in Ohio, but returns to Missouri City over holidays
and summers.
Kelly attends Wright State University in Dayton,
Ohio, and is majoring in psychology, and is pre-med. One reason
she chose Wright State was because of how well the school
provides for disabled students. The buildings are designed
for easy access, and the school provides jobs for able- bodied
students as aides to their disabled classmates. Kelly lives
in a dorm room at school, and has a personal care aide come
every morning and evening. The rest of the time, she must
take care of herself. Her family and friends admire her independent
nature, but they can’t help but be concerned about her
living alone.
Kelly searched for a service dog for years before she met
Allie and Nate from
My Service Dog, Inc. They met at the Reliant Dog Show in Houston
and Nate took to Kelly right away.

hug after training at Target |

Allie, Molly, and Nate met up with Kelly, her
mom and dad and twin sister Melissa in Conroe to meet and
work with Nate. We had lunch then Nate and
Allie rode in their van to Target. They had a good, even though
stressful, training.
It was hard to say, "Goodbye" when the time came.
The next time Allie and Sharon drove to Kelly's
parent's house. Kelly and Nate bonded more while they had
a nice visit.
When Kelly was home from college in December
2006 Allie and Nate went to spend a few days and nights with
Kelly and her parents. Nate bonded right away with Kelly and
gave her lots of love. He stayed beside her most of the time
and was happy to help her in a way he could.
Allie and Natewent to visit Kelly in collage
to introduce him to her life in school. They went to class
with Kelly and sleep in her dorm room. See
